Things are getting increasingly busy at the office.
Today we’re working on 4 different items (primarily): 1) finishing work on socket connections to optimise the speed and stability of the app for users, 2) finishing our meteor ads, 3) finishing server upgrades (refactoring the app), and 4) finishing our admin panel.
What frustrates me right now is how I feel. We need to do all 4 of these things, and we need them done right now. But it’s frustrating to have to do them so late in the game. This is our 10th week of backend work that you just wont see as a JellyChip user.
And I don’t want to lose you. It’s a struggle everyday to explain to people that we’re working incredibly hard on JellyChip when you can’t see that work. It’s really hard from the user’s point of view to see what we’re doing when you can’t see the fruits of our labour. But we’re working hard and tirelessly to make JellyChip better, and work for the world.
And work for you.
Our poor developers are the unsung heroes of JellyChip and it’s been a difficult 10 weeks from what we’re used to as the feature drought has worn on.
I get the real “sense” that users want new features and I get that. But we’ve had to work through this period to clean up 3 years of code and reorganise JellyChip around an expectation that we’ll grow big over the next couple of months.
We could have all the features in the world but if our code and servers are crap, then it’ll all come crashing down in November/December. But I need us to work with stability in mind first, and features second.
And that’s a difficult pill to swallow - especially when the features we need are in our timeline and the app desperately needs them.
Our current motiviations are correct but I am increasingly frustrated by how long it’s all taken.
As soon as this week is up, I really hope next week we’ll be able to focus exclusively on features and what people want to see in JellyChip.
Please have faith in us that we’re making the best JellyChip possible for you. It’s just you can’t always see it.
