I’ve just got the end of financial year numbers for our Pocket Rice app, and it has some pretty unbelievable figures. Pocket Rice users have now earned more than 146,188,800 grains of real rice through playing 1.827 million rounds of trivia. That’s 148 million grains donated for free through the app!
This means that you have users have now fed 7,614 children across Uganda and Nigeria which is truly amazing. 7,614 kids desperate for food that have now been fed - very cool stuff.
How does the rice get distributed you ask? Well, for example if we look at Uganda, food is bought by Pocket Rice and is provided by the UN World Food Programme which arrives by ship at the Kenyan port of Mombasa. The food is trucked via the Ugandan capital Kampala to the refugee settlements in the north of the country. Food is stored in a central warehouse and is distributed to children in need.
It’s quite amazing that from this community, we can collectively make such a difference. As you probably know I’m founding a social network that wants to do this but on a much, much larger scale. I really believe that we have the collective potential to truly change the world, and if Pocket Rice is any indication of JellyChip, we’ve got an exciting next 12 months ahead.
JellyChip is launching soon and I can’t wait for the fun to start.
