Like I’ve said before - JellyChip users need to have control over their giving. There’s no use us having the voting screen when all you can do is vote for one gift when you’re in the app. I mean, you can’t even see if that gift is likely to be in JellyChip with the current one is finished.
Part of the previous design choice for making things obscure and vague in Gift Voting was that it would “surprise and delight” users if their gift actually appeared in Lifeline.
What an amazing thing it would be to see the random vote contribute towards a gift that actually gets activated on JellyChip.
The problem with this is that people stop caring. People know that their vote is counted but they don’t know whether that vote is going to be successful. They don’t even know if that vote is “worth it.” Is it the deciding vote between 1,000 votes for one gift and 1,000 votes for another? Or is it just another vote tossed and thrown away when another, more popular gift gets the activation.
I deliberately removed the number of overall votes in Gift Voting because I didn’t want users to be impacted by Group Think - to just place your vote in the same gift as everyone else. I found myself doing this - when a gift had loads of votes I just wanted to top it up with my own. Knowing that this vote meant something to JellyChip and my act of clicking the Vote tab and selecting a gift wasn’t pointless.
However, I agree with you all (and all the feedback you keep sending me) - it’s boring. It’s meaningless. And if it isn’t - then it needs improving. We will not bring back overall votes to Gift Voting but we will create something brand new.
Coming out in October is Favourites and Filters. We will allow users to favourite gifts they love, up to 3 of them, so that they can count towards every vote automatically. This means that a user does not have to place a vote each time a gift is completed. We will also allow users to sort the Gift Voting by a different number of filters. This gives people the ability to sort gifts according to their preference.
The expanding JellyChip gift range means its only the more important to get this right.
