Bahay Pag Asa in Bacolod was established as a corrective and transformational rehabilitation home for children in conflict with the law (convicted juvenile offenders). The courts release the boys to the center rather than send them to jail. The boys’ rehabilitation aims to get them back into school or to learn vocational skills, and whenever possible to reintegrate them with their families. Most boys suffer from low self-esteem and have come from difficult family environments. All have been involved in criminal activity and have been jailed for crimes ranging from theft to murder. The center is completely dependent on donations for everything from food, utilities, books and equipment. A number of former residents have returned home and turned their lives around – one was nominated as young person of the year. This gift provides one therapy session for a boy attending the facility.
