Millions of children around the world are still not vaccinated against diseases like polio which are preventable. Polio is an easily contracted viral infection that causes life-changing paralysis, but it can be prevented by immunisation. Polio is on the verge of being eradicated across the world, however conflicts have borne the risk that new cases may emerge. Amidst war-torn Syria, polio has made a comeback and health workers are struggling to contain the outbreak. UNICEF has supported numerous vaccinations across the country, but the volatile security situation continues to lead to areas that cannot be accessed. It is estimated that more than 100,000 children in Syria are not immunised against polio, but efforts are underway to reach these children. This gift provides one polio vaccine for a child in Syria so that they can grow up polio-free forever.
