Lasallian Community Education Services (LCES) was established in 1981 to educate and support the needs of the poor living in the slum areas of Colombo 15. The program includes three preschools which accepts children from all faith backgrounds – Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian – and provides each child a solid foundation of basic numeracy and literacy before they start primary school. As part of the preschool program, a mid-day meal is provided to all students. For many, it will be the only meal they will have that day. The height, weight and head circumference of each student is measured to help track their individual development, and to monitor the impact of the project. The menu varies according to the season but includes rice, vegetables, fish, chickpeas and fruit. This gift will provide a nutritious and healthy mid-day meal for one child at LCES.
This gift supports communities in Sri Lanka and costs 562 points on JellyChip.
The target charity is the Lasallian Foundation.
